CSE and its Canadian Centre for Cyber Security (Cyber Centre) are proud to host the 2022 Cyber*Sci Canadian finals at our new Cyber Centre Innovation Space, from June 24th to 26th, 2022. The top team out of the Nationals gets to represent Canada in the four day European finals in Vienna, Austria (September 2022).

Throughout 2022, eight CSE subject matter experts volunteered their time to coach and mentor the students attending the Nationals. Students had the chance to learn from, and engage with, CSE staff who shared valuable knowledge on topics including: Forensics, Blue Teaming, Reverse Engineering, Networking, Binary Exploitation, Web and Cryptography.

About Cyber*Sci

Cyber*Sci is a non-profit that inspires young women and men across Canada to demonstrate their cyber skills in national and international cyber challenges. These challenges encourage students to gain experience working in collaborative and diverse teams to solve complex cyber security problems. Cyber*Sci also connects its talent pool with industry sponsors.

More than 800 students from 39 academic institutions across Canada have participated in Cyber*Sci events since 2011. Cyber*Sci held regional competitions in January 2022 with the help of universities and colleges in Saint-John, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Calgary, and Vancouver. These regional competitions served as recruitment events and identified the top six teams in 2022.

Cyber*Sci includes Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) by design. They specifically run a regional competition in Montreal to ensure French speaking students can compete. They are continually striving to be more inclusive. Since 2019 they added an all-women's team who performed extremely well. For 2022, at CSE's request, the Executive Director established an additional team of indigenous participants. We congratulate Cyber*Sci for their concrete EDI actions.
