Course 123: Targeted social engineering attacks

Description

Government of Canada (GC) employees are often the targets of spear phishing and whaling campaigns given their access to sensitive and financial information. There is a requirement to increase the cyber security awareness on these commons risks by highlighting how to identify them, mitigate and avoid them.

Objectives

  • Describe various types of social engineering attacks
  • Recognize characteristics of social engineering attacks
  • Describe tactics used to camouflage malicious links
  • Adopt practices that reduce social engineering threats
  • Recall how to contain and recover from social engineering compromises

Target audience

The target audience is senior management, executives and their staff, and any other employees in the private/public sector who may be the focus of targeted social engineering attacks and who are looking to protect themselves and their assets from cyber-attacks.

Prerequisites

Prior to attending, it would be beneficial for participants to take course 602 - Discovering Cyber Security.
