Introducing the Cyber Security Audit Program for auditors

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, the Cyber Centre remains committed to supporting our government and private sector partners. It is important that Canadian organizations have the tools they need to safeguard Canada’s cyber landscape.

The Cyber Security Audit Program for Canadian auditors is our latest publicly available tool to help strengthen Canada’s IT security environment.

The Cyber Security Audit Program is a free, plain-language document for auditors to use to assess the cyber security status of their organizations. It is based on CSE’s top 10 IT security actions and includes three supplementary tools:

  1. A summary placemat that outlines the program
  2. An audit guide that provides definitions and audit options
  3. A preliminary survey tool that helps determine which specific audits to apply

The program and tools were developed by CSE’s internal audit team in collaboration with the Cyber Centre. They are available for free in both Official Languages. We encourage auditors, both those with significant IT audit knowledge and those with little or none, to use these tools to assess their organizations’ cyber security. those with little or none, to use these tools to assess their organizations’ cyber security.

Who can use the tools?

The Cyber Security Audit Program and tools are free to use for any auditor or group providing IT oversight. No previous IT security audit knowledge is required, as we encourage any auditor who wishes to learn more about cyber security to try these tools.

How do I get them?

Please visit the Cyber Security Audit Program page on the Cyber Centre website to download the program and tools. The page also provides instructions on how to get in touch with CSE’s audit team if your organization is interested in a briefing to better understand how the tools work.

In the coming months, CSE’s audit team will be promoting the tools at conferences and events. We encourage you to follow our Twitter account to learn where the team will be.

Lastly, the tools in the Cyber Security Audit Program suite will be modified as we receive user feedback.

By working with auditors to enhance their organizations’ security governance and posture, we will strengthen Canada’s collective security status during the global pandemic -and beyond.
