Course 230: COMSEC Account Management

Description

Learners will be introduced to the various duties required of COMSEC COMSECCommunications security (COMSEC) is the discipline of preventing unauthorized access to telecommunications information in readable form, while still delivering the information to the intended recipients. COMSEC is comprised of multiple disciplines such as Cryptographic security, EMSEC (Emission security), Transmission security, and Physical security. custodians as well as the IT Security Directive for the Control of COMSEC Material COMSEC materialAn item designed to secure or authenticate telecommunications information (e.g. cryptographic keys, equipment, modules, devices, documents, hardware, firmware, or software that includes or describes cryptographic logic and other items that perform COMSEC functions). in the Government of Canada (ITSD-03A). This training will assist in developing the required skills and knowledge needed to perform the critical activities required of COMSEC custodians when handling COMSEC material.

Learners will be introduced to management of Accountable COMSEC Material Accountable COMSEC materialCOMSEC material requiring control and accountability within the National COMSEC Material Control System (NCMCS) as directed by its Accounting Legend Code (ALC). Control and accountability is required because transfer or disclosure of this material could be detrimental to Canada's national interest. Also known as ACM. (ACM) throughout its lifecycle, the reports required for issuing, transferring and destroying ACM and ordering cryptographic key Cryptographic keyA numerical value used in cryptographic processes, such as encryption, decryption, signature generation, and signature verification. to name just a few.

  • Perform audits of COMSEC accounts

Prerequisites
